What if I have MORE than the minimum 60 students?

GREAT!

The more students you have, the more fun it becomes!  Just be sure to arrange for a space big enough to accommodate everyone comfortably.

You might even be able to use this event as a fundraising opportunity!

What if I can't meet the minimum 60 students to attend?

Sure you can!

It takes only THREE average-sized classes to meet the required minimum... and that's easy!

Here are some ways to reach that:

Expect attendance for this in-house field trip the same as you would any valuable field trip (i.e. college fair, school play, museum tour, music festival, etc.).
Team up with other teachers and departments --English, Drama, Career/Voc., and Video Production.
Invite neighboring schools.  They have kids, too!

You might discover this event could serve your school as a fundraising opportunity!

What if parents want to attend?

If there's one thing we love, it's seeing parents support their children.

Parents are absolutely welcome --free of charge!

What will I need on the day of the event?

Other than your smiling faces, the IFG will need…

Materials
Two 8' tables
DVD player
Projector
Projector screen

Student Payment

Collect the $10 attendance fee from your students anytime you wish (before or after the event).  But on the day of the event, please be sure to submit to the IFG $10 per student in the form of a...

School check,
Cashier's check, or
Money Order.

When is a good time to schedule this field trip event?

Schedule this field trip for a day that works best with you and your school's schedule, but consider that Monday - Wednesday are oftentimes less hectic than Thursday or Friday.

When do I submit the student admission fees?

On the day of the event, be prepared to submit $10 per student to an IFG representative in the form of a school/cashier's check or Money Order made payable to:

The Indie Film Group (IFG)

1402 Main St., Lynden, WA  98264

UBI#: 601-961-988

Where did this event originate?

In 2003, Western Washington University partnered with the IFG and later encouraged the development of a film-related educational program focused on media literacy for high school students.

How to Write Movies for Hollywood got its start as a program option at WWU's week-long summer discovery camp for youths.  Eventually the program became shortened into a one day workshop.  Thousands of students later, here we are!

Where will this field trip event take place?

How to Write Movies for Hollywood comes directly to you!  This event will be held on your own campus.  Just be sure to have an appropriately-sized auditorium or large meeting space.

Why is this field trip held on my campus?

The IFG is aware of how difficult it is to organize permission and transportation for field trips --especially considering budget cuts and volatile gas prices.

Bringing this unique and valuable experience directly to your campus makes it easier to justify participation... all you need to do is set a date, send a completed Registration Form, and bring your students!

No time-consuming administrative approval process
No parent permission slips to organize
No transportation arrangements

Why must this event occur during school hours?

How to Write Movies for Hollywood is held during the school day because students and teachers have very busy lives.  Family, homework, jobs, sports, and other extra-curricular activities make it difficult to successfully plan this kind of event outside traditional school hours.

The IFG is confident that this fun motivational retreat will increase the educational integrity of your school day and serve the goals of your classroom, no matter where you are in your curriculum.

Why must there be a minimum of 60 students?

How to Write Movies for Hollywood has no financial sponsors for this traveling field trip.  The minimum of 60 students helps the IFG cover the cost of promotion, travel, presentation, etc.  It also helps the IFG prepare future events.

The minimum also makes the event more exciting --the more who attend, the more energetic the event becomes!

Why must I commit in advance?

How to Write Movies for Hollywood is promoted among hundreds of schools.  Submitting a completed Registration Form in advance makes it possible for the IFG to guarantee your place on the schedule while still making plans with other schools.

Why do I need to submit a Purchase Order?

There is indeed NO COST to your school, but we do need confirmation that you will have at least the minimum of 60 students to make this field trip feasible for the IFG.

Most teachers show good faith by submitting a Purchase Order with their completed Registration Form.  And then, on the day of the event, they submit a check from their school to the IFG that represents the $10 collected from each student for attendance.

How many students need to attend?

How to Write Movies for Hollywood needs at least 60 students to attend.

Remember... it's a career-exploration field trip!  Expect attendance from your class the same as you would any valuable field trip you assign (i.e. college fair, school play, museum tour, music festival, etc).

Recruit at least TWO other teachers to bring their classes, and you'll have met that minimum, easily!

How much will this cost my school?

There is NO COST to your school!

You will, however, be responsible for collecting $10 from each student attending the field trip event and , on the day of the event, submit it to the IFG in the form of a school/cashier's check or Money Order made payable to:

The Indie Film Group (IFG)

1402 Main St., Lynden, WA  98264

UBI#: 601-961-988

How do I bring this field trip to my school?

Keep things simple!

1.
Pick a date that works best for you.
2.
Find a space that accommodates the number of students you expect will attend
3.
Mail/Fax a completed Registration Form to the IFG two weeks before the event.  You can include a Purchase Order from your school to confirm your commitment.

Then just spread the word to your students, colleagues, and even neighboring schools.  The more who attend, the more energy is generated.

You could also use this event as a fundraising opportunity.
