The Screenwriters' Boot Camp is a grueling course for new and accomplished writers who are eager to receive the discipline to organize, structure, and complete the first draft of a feature-length movie screenplay.

The Screenwriters' Boot Camp is perfect for storytellers of all creative disciplines --screenwriters, stage writers, short story writers, song writers, novelists, poets, actors, directors, etc.

The Screenwriters' Boot Camp will give you the tools to streamline your writing and force you to consider the value of every scene you write.  In the end, you will have confidence that you are in control of a well-written story.

THE COMMITMENT

Class will meet for two hours EVERY Saturday for 12 weeks in order to cover the following areas:

PART I - Skillful Storytelling

Discussion and activities based on the works of past and present gurus will make sure you understand the crucial concepts of excellent storytelling.  By the end of this section, you will have developed character biographies and a story concept for your own feature-length screenplay.

PART II - Building Your Screenplay

A closer examination of the Three-Act Structure will help you outline your screenplay and weave scenes, plot points, and subplots into a well-constructed story.  Checklists and worksheets will discipline you stay focused on the value and progression for each and every scene.  By the end of this section's assignments and deadlines, you will have squeezed out the treatment for a well-constructed story.

PART III - Writing Your Screenplay

In addition to learning the proper format for speculation screenplays, you will learn tips and techniques for excellent description and dialogue.  Assignments and deadlines help you convert your treatments into well-written scenes.  Peers will evaluate your work as you progress, making sure you adhere to the strict expectations of this visual medium.

PART IV - Selling Your Screenplay

in-class drills and activities will give you the tools to write a treatment, synopsis, and logline for your screenplay.  You will also learn to write professional query letters with which to solicit agents, studios, and production companies.  You will receive contact information for well over 200 agencies and production companies looking for material.  You will learn how to protect your work with WGA registration and copyright.
